[Day 9]1
Life is sacred
And we miss it, we miss so much of what’s around
Our heads bowed, but not to the earth or solid ground
Instead focussed on phone screens sucking attention is the intention
Our devotion is to what’s virtual, there’s no reverence paid with attention
We seek redemption online not the sacred dimension
This one right here
The one where we connect in person
With words and gestures and energy and laughter
Where we don’t need to take pics to favourite and share after
Cause we know that this being present now together is what matters
Not how it looks when update your status
The way we pray today is by hoping what’s posted is liked
Endorphins rush in and adrenaline is spiked,
We value the moment it takes to tap a heart on a screen
More than the time it takes to truly seen and be seen
It’s everywhere if you look now, look up and around
People looking back so desperate to be found
Craving to be seen but settling for a cursory look
Looking in all the wrong places, the faceless on Facebook
The way we pray today is in public for all to see
Our feeds just avatar of what we say we believe
Less time spend in true communion with you and me
Swapping connection in person for a well lit selfie
Hoping you’ll see what I’m trying to say
If you read the caption beneath, it took me all day
But we miss it cause there’s not enough time
To read yours, I’m too busy making mine
The way we pray today is with our phones obscuring our faces
We worship at the alter of apps, not in sacred places
But there here, those places, they always have been
You’ll find them in real human hearts
Not the ones on your screen
