Hi,
There’s a full moon rising over the ocean tonight on the East Coast of Australia. There’s a headland that provides a perfect vantage point from which to watch it, too. I was there this morning as the sun rose, it’s a very special place. Sometimes when the planets align, at dawn, you can be watching the sunrise in the East while the full moon sets in the West, it’s magical.
I’ve been thinking about regrets this past couple of days, my regrets. This was inspired by an Instagram post by Rainier Wylde on the topic. He writes beautifully and honestly. I went back and read David Whyte’s essay on regret in Consolations too as I wrangled with mine.
I find it’s helpful to speak about these things, of our experience of them if not the details. And I find it helps to do this in community, with others, to listen, to share, to witness and notice. Sometimes it’s a conversation with others, other times it’s a quiet conversation within.
Tonight a few of us will gather for a courageous conversation about regret and surrender upon the headland as the moon rises over the ocean. You’re invited to join us, we’ll meet at 6pm AEST and spend a couple of hours honouring and surrendering. It’s short notice, but if you’d like to participate simply respond to this email now and I’ll send you the details.
If you can’t make it and would like to reflect, I’ve made a playlist that’s a good soundtrack to reflecting and writing. Perhaps you could write a letter to yourself and your regrets. You may want to surrender it to the ocean, to the wind or to the earth.
With love and an extra long exhale,
Mikey
